A Lok Adalat is a settlement forum under the Legal Services Authorities Act whose award is final and binding, with no appeal against it — which is both its advantage and the reason to think before consenting.
There are two things worth knowing, and they pull in opposite directions.
First, a Lok Adalat settlement is often the better outcome. Court fee is refunded, the matter ends the same day, and in accident and cheque matters the money actually arrives instead of being appealed for three years.
Second, the award is final. There is no appeal against a Lok Adalat award — the only route afterwards is a writ, and only on narrow grounds. So consent given to end a tiring day is consent you cannot take back. Read what is being recorded before you agree to it.
